Despite hearing the call of the Cuckoo for many years, I had never actually seen one until today. I could hear it calling from the other side of the river and spotted it with the binoculars. Grabbed the camera, crossed the river (feet wet, who cares) and managed to get pretty close to it.
Well done, and you didn’t have to wait 6 hours like one of my Flickr contacts (although admittedly it’s a brilliant in-flight shot): http://www.flickr.com/photos/hvhe1/8858738972/
I’ve seen a few before but never managed to photograph one, especially not in flight as they’re pretty quick fliers and their grey colour can be hard for the camera’s AF to latch onto. Many other birds will chase them away due to their sneaky egg-laying habits.
I don’t think I’d wait 6 hours. This was closer to six minutes…..
There were lots of wee birds buzzing round them, trying to chase them off. Couldn’t make out what they were though.
